Specifically, let's talk about the early signs of mistrust that shimmer like an oil slick on water.
Recently I have had the dubious privilege of hearing about how a friend's place of employment had rapidly transitioned from a place of trust and respect to one of disrespect and even abuse. As a result, no one speaks up in staff meetings anymore, morale is at an all-time low, formal grievances about management are numerous and a large number of people are leaving this place of employment. I wondered if anyone noticed the cultural shift early on and didn't say anything.
Have you ever observed a rapid demise of a relatively respectful workplace culture? If so, what were the early signs of it? And what might a non-manager do about those early signs?
